Et Al,

I posted the following on Metalink OS/390 forum on Monday, but also wanted to post here to get feedback from the community at large. Thank you.

"Best" Way to Upgrade to 8.1.7

I'd just like a quick feel from the community - from those who have upgraded as to what is the best
upgrade approach. For example, export/import, in-place upgrade, new db with SQL*Copy..?????

The largest OS/390 database is about 130Gig - with 119 datafiles and about 35 tablespaces. Since
partitioning is not available in 7.3, we kind of faked it by creating for three subystems that want six
months online transactions (about 35 million rows per month) six separate tables in in their own
data/index tablespaces joined by a view - so I could also "stage" the upgrade - for example, dump to
tape the four oldest months of each of those, truncate them and then do an in-place upgrade of the
two current months and then copy back in the older data.

Anyway, your thoughts??? And, any "gotchas" to look for? Also - this database cannot be down for
an extended period of time - it is "virtually" 24 by 7 - I could probably have it down for about 5 - 7
hours on a Sunday morning - that is it.

Thanks in advance.
